What is this place?

The current building dates from 2014, designed by the architecture firm BPA Architecture, replacing a much more modest cultural facility that previously stood on the same site. The structure takes the form of a large concrete volume housing the auditorium together with its technical spaces. The architects reused a narrow passageway (venelle) that ran through the plot, turning it into a kind of urban forecourt in front of the entrance — the flooring inside and outside was finished the same way, so the public square flows directly into the venue's lobby. The building also works as a connector between different neighbourhoods of Céret.

Besides the roughly 300-seat auditorium, the complex includes a reception area, administrative offices for the cultural department, meeting rooms and rehearsal spaces for performers. The total floor area is about 1,628 m², and the project — funded by the Communauté de Communes du Vallespir — cost around 3 million euros. Acoustics were handled by the Sigma studio, with stage design by Catherine Marquet.
