Ruprechtický Špičák

Ruprechtický Špičák is an 880-metre peak in the Czech part of the Javoří Mountains, part of the Suché Mountains subrange within the Kamenné Mountains (Central Sudetes), sitting right on the Polish border a few kilometres northeast of Broumov and roughly 8–9 km from the small railway town of Meziměstí.

How high is Ruprechtický Špičák and where exactly is it?

At 880 m above sea level, this is the highest point of the Czech section of the Javoří Mountains and the second-highest summit of the entire Broumov Highlands. It also happens to be the highest point of the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area and of the whole Náchod district. The Polish border runs just a few dozen metres from the top, and a marked border crossing toward the Polish village of Łomnica lies only a few hundred metres from the summit. The mountain is mostly forested, and its name comes from the distinctly cone-shaped silhouette it presents when viewed from the south.

What can you see from the lookout tower on top?

A steel lookout tower nearly 30 metres tall stands right on the summit, with a viewing platform reached by about 100 steps at a height of 22 metres. It's free to visit year-round. The platform delivers a wide, circular panorama spanning both sides of the border: on the Czech side you get the Broumov Basin with the Broumov Walls, the Ostaš ridge, the Adršpach-Teplice Rocks massif, Velká Hejšovina, and the Orlické Mountains, with the Krkonoše (Giant Mountains) visible on a clear day. Across the border in Poland, the view stretches to the Sowie Mountains and the Stołowe (Table) Mountains.

How do you get to the summit?

The shortest approach follows a yellow-marked trail from a car park in the village of Ruprechtice, only about 2 km from the tower. A longer but well-trodden option is the blue-marked trail running straight from Meziměstí, the small industrial railway town at the foot of the Suché Mountains — that route runs about 9 km one way. Both trails are clearly signposted and work well as a full day's hike or bike outing, easily combined with a visit to the nearby Broumov Walls.
