About this place
Ogrodzieniec Castle is a ruined medieval fortress in Podzamcze, near Ogrodzieniec, in the south-central Polish region known as the Polish Jura. First built in the 14th century, it was rebuilt several times over the course of its long history. Set on top of Castle Mountain, at 515.5 metres, it stands on the highest hill of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland and makes a good stop for sightseeing.
- Explore the castle ruins, which are open to visitors and let you walk through the remains of this medieval stronghold.
- Take in the setting on Castle Mountain, the highest point of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, with wide views over the surrounding Polish Jura landscape.
- Follow its connection to the Trail of the Eagles' Nests, the hiking route linking a number of well-known castles in the region.
For the visit, it is worth wearing comfortable shoes, as the terrain around the ruins and on the hill can be uneven. This is a good choice for travelers interested in history, castle landscapes, and a short outing that combines walking with sightseeing.
