About this place
Panská zahrada is a roughly 3.25-hectare park in Prague's Dubeč district (Prague 15), created on the site of a former illegal dump next to the Říčanka stream. The area falls within the protected zone of the Říčanka Nature Park and combines the natural character of the stream valley with elements shaped by landscape architects.
How did this park come to be?
Revitalization work began in May 2009 as part of the "Dubeč Nature Park" project. For most of the 20th century the original manorial garden (panská zahrada) had been left to decay, and its ground was eventually buried under several metres of dumped waste. The clean-up and redesign were carried out in two stages: the first ended with the park opening to visitors in 2010, and the second was finished in spring 2011.
What is there to see?
The reshaped grounds were planted with tree species typical of this part of Europe — lindens, planes and maples. Walking through the park, visitors come across several distinct zones:
- a meditation meadow with arranged stones and a water feature
- a hedge maze ending in a viewing platform
- a playground for younger visitors
- a barefoot path
- a natural amphitheatre used for outdoor gatherings
- an ornamental pond surrounded by wetland vegetation
- a ford for crossing the stream
- a vineyard viewpoint growing the Marlen and Madel grape varieties
Is it a good place for a walk with children?
The playground, the barefoot path and the stream ford make the park a popular choice for families — the layout invites active exploration rather than just a walk-through. At the same time, quieter corners such as the meditation meadow and the vineyard viewpoint offer a slower pace for visitors without kids in tow.
What makes Panská zahrada different from a typical city park?
This isn't a park designed from scratch — it's a reclaimed piece of landscape that first had to be cleared of illegally dumped waste before it could serve any recreational purpose again. Its location right on the Říčanka stream, within the Říčanka Nature Park, gives it a more natural, less manicured feel than most parks closer to central Prague.
