About this place
Sybillenort Castle is a former palace in Szczodre, about 12 kilometres north-east of Wrocław in Silesia, Poland. It once served as the seat of the dukes of Oels and later became private property of the royal Saxon family. Known for its Tudor style, it was also called the Silesian Windsor, and today it offers a stop for those interested in history and a short sightseeing visit.
- The site is tied to the history of the dukes of Oels, who first held it as their residence.
- It later passed into the private ownership of the royal Saxon family, adding another layer to its aristocratic past.
- Its Tudor-style appearance earned it the nickname “the Silesian Windsor,” even though the palace was destroyed in the last days of the Second World War by soldiers of either the retreating SS or the Red Army.
If you plan to visit the area, it is worth combining the stop with other sights around Wrocław, as this is more of a historical place to reflect on than a building to tour. It is a good choice for travelers interested in palace history, Silesian heritage, and wartime destruction.
