Osová Castle

Osová Castle is a Baroque-Renaissance residence in the village of Osová, part of the municipality of Osová Bítýška in the Žďár nad Sázavou district, in the Czech region of Vysočina. How did the castle acquire its Baroque form?

Only fragments of the former east and south wings were retained, while the whole complex was rebuilt on a nearly regular four-wing plan around an arcaded courtyard. Traces of the medieval masonry survive in the basements, and original Baroque vaulted ceilings remain on the ground floor. From the late 16th century onward, the estate also included farm buildings, a working courtyard, and a brewery.

From 1797 until 1945, Osová belonged to the Haugwitz family, who used it as a summer residence away from everyday affairs. During this period the castle served a representative and leisure role typical of Central European aristocratic families through the 19th and early 20th centuries.
