Mramorka is a small hill and viewpoint rising above the town of Kunštát, in the Blansko district of Moravia. The summit reaches 556 metres above sea level and is a popular short walk for locals from Kunštát as well as visitors who stop by while touring the town's well-known chateau.

Where is Mramorka and how do you get there?

The hill rises directly on the eastern edge of Kunštát. Reaching the top usually takes no more than half an hour along paths through forest and meadow, with no difficult sections — making it suitable for families with children. Mramorka lies within the Halasovo Kunštátsko Natural Park, established in 1980 and covering roughly 68.5 km² of the Vysočina landscape around Kunštát. The park is named after the poet František Halas, who often visited the area and drew inspiration from it. Trails around the hill connect to the wider hiking and cycling network of the Boskovice region, so a walk up Mramorka can easily be combined with a longer route.

What can you see from the top?

The summit is marked by a cross, visible from surrounding roads even before you reach it. From the viewpoint, the panorama opens in several directions: toward Rozseč nad Kunštátem and Sulíkov, along the Svitava river valley as far as Blansko, and across the hills toward Boskovice. The town of Kunštát itself and the neighbouring village of Makov are also visible. This makes Mramorka a useful reference point for getting a feel for the surrounding landscape — most of the region's landmarks can be picked out from a single spot.

Where does the name Mramorka come from?

The hill's name is not accidental. Mramorka is built from metamorphic rock — gneiss, schist, and crystalline limestone, in other words marble ("mramor" in Czech). It's this marble bedrock that gave the hill its name. Its slopes still hold patches of dry grassland with heat-loving plant species, typical of sunny, rocky terrain of this kind — one of the reasons the area is protected as part of the natural park.

When is the best time to visit?

The hill can be visited year-round, but the clearest views come between spring and autumn, when tree foliage doesn't yet — or no longer — block the panorama, and the dry grassland on the slopes is at its most colourful in late spring and summer. In autumn, the added draw is the colour of the forest in the Svitava valley below. In winter the path can turn muddy or icy, so sturdy footwear is worth packing.
