Minizoo Malá Chuchle

Praga, Czechia

About this place

Zookoutek Malá Chuchle is a small forest zoo tucked inside the Chuchelský háj nature reserve, on a wooded hillside above Prague's Velká Chuchle district. Founded in 1999, it has since become a favorite destination for local families and anyone looking for a quiet nature walk on the southern edge of the city. Unlike a typical commercial zoo, this facility is run by the Educational Center of Prague's Forests and doubles as a shelter for animals that, due to permanent injuries or other health issues, cannot be released back into the wild.

What animals live here?

The minizoo is home to more than thirty species, most of them native to the Czech Republic. Visitors can see mouflons, fallow deer, wild boars, red foxes, European red deer, Eurasian lynx, and eagle owls, among others. The enclosures are designed to resemble the animals' natural habitats, allowing close observation without excessive disruption to their daily routines.

How much does it cost to visit?

Admission to the minizoo is completely free, year-round — one of the few nature attractions in Prague that doesn't charge a single crown. A small refreshment stand on site sells drinks and snacks, handy after a walk through the forest.

How do you get there?

The zoo is located at Malá Chuchle 8/8, in the Praha 5-Malá Chuchle district. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads directly to it, and the most convenient approach on foot starts from Velká Chuchle, about a kilometer and a half away through the woods. The walk is easy and suitable for families with children, though comfortable shoes are recommended since the path runs through forest terrain.

When is it open?

Opening hours change with the season. From April to September, the minizoo is open Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 19:00, and on weekends from 10:00 to 19:00. From October to March, it is closed on weekdays but open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 19:00. It's worth double-checking the current schedule before visiting, since hours can shift depending on weather and time of year.

Is it worth combining with another attraction?

Because the minizoo sits right inside the Chuchelský háj nature reserve, it naturally pairs with a longer forest walk — the reserve also has additional educational trails and viewpoints nearby. It makes for a solid full-day outing with children, combining close encounters with wildlife, environmental education, and outdoor activity, all without an entrance fee.
