Malý Javorový

Malý Javorový is a modest peak in the Silesian Beskids, rising right above the Czech town of Třinec, and a year-round favourite for an easy half-day trip with a view.

Where is Malý Javorový located?

At 948 metres above sea level, Malý Javorový is a secondary summit of the higher Javorový peak (1,031 m), sitting roughly 1.5 km to its east within the Moravian-Silesian Beskids (Beskydy) in the Frýdek-Místek district. It stands directly above Třinec, close to the Polish border, and counts among the most visited hills in the area thanks to easy access and well-developed tourist infrastructure. The upper slopes are largely open, which means wide views without having to climb a lookout tower.

How do you get there?

The easiest option is the chairlift from Oldřichovice, a district of Třinec — its upper station sits about 500 metres from the mountain chalet on the summit, and it runs daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hikers can instead follow the green-marked trail leading straight from Oldřichovice to the top, the shortest and most popular approach on foot. Several other marked trails cross the summit too, connecting it to the neighbouring Javorový peak and other hills of the Silesian Beskids, so a longer ridge loop is easy to put together instead of a simple there-and-back walk.

The summit holds a mountain chalet offering meals and overnight stays, next to a mountain rescue station and a television relay mast serving the surrounding region. Roughly from December to March, Malý Javorový operates as a small, family-friendly ski area with a working lift and groomed cross-country trails — a good pick for anyone after low-key runs close to town rather than a large resort.
