Lucký vrch

Lucký vrch rises to 739 metres above the village of Telecí, on the north-eastern edge of the Žďárské vrchy range in the Pardubice region of the Czech Republic. It lies within the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area and has long been valued as one of the region's best viewpoints.

What can you see from the top?

The main draw of Lucký vrch is its wide, two-sided panorama. Looking south, hikers take in the rolling Bohemian-Moravian Highlands together with the Orlické hory; looking the other way, the Jeseníky range appears on clear days, and under exceptional visibility even the distant outline of the Krkonoše mountains can be made out. It's this reach across two very different mountain ranges — rather than any built structure — that makes the summit worth the trip.

There is currently no lookout tower on the summit. The municipality of Telecí has included a rozhledna (observation tower) in its local development plan, along with a parking area at the foot of the hill and repairs to the access road, but construction has not yet begun. Until then, the view is taken in from the open meadow at the top.

How do you get to Lucký vrch?

The summit is reachable on foot or by bike via marked hiking and cycling trails, and it's a popular cross-country skiing destination in winter. Unusually for a summit, an access road also runs to the very top, so it can be reached by car as well — there's a parking area and a campsite with space for tents and caravans right at the summit.

By public transport, the easiest option is the bus stop "Telecí – Lucký vrch," about 1 km from the top. Alternatively, the train stations at Oldřiš or Borová are roughly 3 km away.

What else is worth combining with a visit?

Right below the hill lies the village of Telecí, home to the legendary Lukášova lípa — an old linden tree wrapped in local folklore, reached by a short trail often combined with the climb up Lucký vrch. From the summit, further hiking and cycling routes head deeper into the Žďárské vrchy, including toward Devět skal and Buchtův kopec, making the hill a good base for a longer day out in the region.

When is the best time to visit?

Days with clear air give the best results — autumn and winter spells after a cold front tends to pass often deliver the longest visibility. In summer the hill attracts family cycling trips combined with a picnic or overnight camp, while in winter it becomes a cross-country ski route across the exposed, breezy upper slopes of the Žďárské vrchy.
