What Is Le Fil?

Open since January 2008, Le Fil is run by the LIMACE association (LIgérienne de Musiques ACtuElles), which curates its artistic programme. The venue carries the official SMAC status awarded by the French Ministry of Culture to spaces dedicated to promoting contemporary and alternative music. The 1,700 m² building houses a main concert hall with retractable seating that switches between roughly 1,200 standing places and 450 seated ones, plus a smaller club space for up to 300 people, complete with a bar, snack counter and terrace open on show nights.

The name pays tribute to the city's industrial past as a centre of ribbon-weaving (rubanerie). Designed by the firms XXL Atelier and Philippe Delers & Associés, the building's facade is wrapped in a metal mesh evoking woven threads — a direct nod to that heritage. Scenography was handled by the agency dUCKS scéno, with acoustics designed by the studio Acouphen.

Le Fil sits at 20 Boulevard Thiers, in an easily reachable part of central Saint-Étienne. From Saint-Étienne Châteaucreux railway station — served by trains from Lyon and other regional hubs — the venue is only a short tram or bus ride away. Visitors arriving by car will find public parking nearby.
