La Fabrika

Praha, Czechia

About this place

La Fabrika is a multipurpose cultural venue in Prague's Holešovice district, built by converting a cluster of early 20th-century factory buildings. The combination of raw industrial architecture and modern technical facilities has made it one of the city's most distinctive cultural addresses.

Where exactly is it located?

The complex sits between Dělnická, Komunardů and Přístavní streets, right in the heart of Holešovice — a district known for turning former industrial sites into cultural and community spaces. The main address is Komunardů 30, home to the Studio 1 hall, with a second venue, Slévárna, located nearby at Přístavní 22.

What is the history behind the buildings?

The complex was created by connecting, rebuilding and completing several factory buildings from the early 20th century, following a design by the KAVA studio. Studio 1, the main hall, opened in 2007 after the conversion of a former hall belonging to Richter's machine factory. Five years later, in 2012, a second hall, Slévárna, opened on the site of a former foundry that had belonged to Karel Bendelmayer.

What is the space used for today?

La Fabrika was conceived as a home for audiovisual projects and theatre or dance productions that require unconventional spatial setups, as well as for multimedia exhibitions, performances, lectures and workshops. The venue also hosts social gatherings, exhibitions, concerts and more classical theatre performances. Studio 1 functions as a so-called black box — a neutral, adaptable space equipped with additional screens and projectors, allowing it to be reconfigured for anything from a stage play to a concert or a large-scale multimedia projection.

Which events and artists appear here?

Since its founding, the venue has given a stage both to emerging Czech talents and the local alternative scene, as well as to productions with international recognition. Performers who have appeared at La Fabrika include Tatiana Vilhelmová, Anna Polívková, Martha Issová, Vojtěch Dyk and Jakub Prachař, alongside numerous theatre ensembles.
