Back in 1982, CIT had already launched Titirijai, an international puppet festival that grew year after year, drawing companies and audiences from across the globe. As the festival's reputation expanded, CIT members Miguel Arreche and Idoya Otegui put forward, in 1987, the first proposal for a permanent puppet centre in Tolosa. It took roughly two more decades for that idea to become a physical reality.

When did TOPIC open its doors?

TOPIC officially opened on 27 November 2009. The date was chosen deliberately: it coincided with the 27th edition of the Titirijai festival, tying the new museum symbolically to the very event that had inspired its creation. Since then, TOPIC has operated as a year-round institution, complementing the annual festival with permanent and temporary exhibitions as well as educational activities.
