Hrad Kácov

Hrad Kácov, also called Starý hrad, Hrádek or Pustý hrad (the "Old" or "Deserted" Castle), is the ruin of a small medieval watch-castle perched on a rocky spur above the left bank of the Sázava River, roughly a kilometre southwest of the market town of Kácov in the Kutná Hora district of Central Bohemia. It's a modest but striking hiking destination rather than a polished tourist attraction.

Where exactly are the ruins, and how do you get there?

The ruins sit on a high outcrop protected on three sides by steep, in places near-vertical cliffs, directly above the Sázava. Two paths lead there from Kácov: a short, steep trail hugging the riverbank, and a gentler forest route that heads roughly a kilometre west from the town square before continuing a few hundred metres along forest edges and fields. The forest route is generally the easier option for casual visitors.

Hrad Kácov is a separate, much older site located outside the town, with a very different character — an untamed, unrestored ruin rather than a maintained residence.
