Galleri F 15

Moss, Norway

About this place

Galleri F 15 is a contemporary art gallery in Moss, Norway, on the island of Jeløy, set in the historic Alby farm. It is one of the oldest exhibition venues in the country, and for decades it has paired an ambitious art programme with an unusual rural setting.

Where is Galleri F 15?

The gallery sits on the southeastern side of Jeløy, an island belonging to the town of Moss in Østfold. It occupies a nineteenth-century courtyard on the large Alby farm, part of a historic manor landscape. The address is Albyalléen 60, 1519 Moss. A visit combines gallery-going with a walk through open, park-like countryside.

How did the gallery begin?

The brothers Niels and Lars Brandstrup founded the gallery in 1966. It moved to Alby in 1967 and has stayed there ever since. Its name comes from its first address in Moss. From 1984 the gallery was taken over by Moss municipality and Østfold county, in 1993 it became a limited company, and since 1995 it has received state funding.

What will you see?

The programme focuses on contemporary art and draws on a strong international network, especially across the Nordic countries. Its yearly calendar includes "Tendenser", an exhibition devoted to Nordic crafts.

What is Momentum?

Galleri F 15 runs Momentum, a Nordic biennial for contemporary art. The first edition took place in 1998, and it is held every two years. It is regarded as one of the longest-running and most important platforms for contemporary art in the Nordic region. Momentum 12 was held in 2023.

Who is behind it?

The gallery and the biennial are operated by Punkt Ø AS, a Norwegian art institution founded in 2006. Østfold county is its largest shareholder. The institution's stated aim is to promote knowledge and understanding of Norwegian and international contemporary art.
