Frýdek Castle

Frýdek Castle stands on Zámecké náměstí (Castle Square) in the town of Frýdek-Místek, right on the historic dividing line between Silesia and Moravia.

How did the castle come to be?

The site began as a Gothic stronghold, raised in the 14th century on the order of a Duke of Cieszyn from the Piast dynasty. Ownership shifted in the mid-16th century, when the Frýdek estate passed into pledge to the Pernštejn family, who kicked off a Renaissance-style rebuilding of the old fortress.
