Estany de Dellui is a high-mountain glacial lake in the municipality of La Vall de Boí, tucked deep inside the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park in the Catalan Pyrenees.

Where is it and how do you get there?

The lake sits at roughly 2,350 metres above sea level, in the Vall de Sant Nicolau, within the Alta Ribagorça comarca. Most hikers start from Planell d'Aigüestortes (1,755 m), reached from the village of Boí by 4x4 taxi, since private vehicle access is restricted inside this part of the park. An alternative is to start on foot from the La Molina car park (1,380 m) and walk the whole valley approach. From Planell d'Aigüestortes, the climb to Estany de Dellui takes about 3 hours one way, with roughly 600 metres of ascent — a demanding but non-technical hike that requires no climbing gear.

The route first heads toward Estany Llong, then climbs gradually past a group of smaller ponds, the Estanyets de Dellui, sitting lower down between 2,308 and 2,324 metres and draining into the Barranc de Dellui stream. Only after this stretch does the path rise onto the broad, rocky plateau where the main lake lies.

Estany de Dellui is known for its crystal-clear water and stark high-mountain scenery, framed by rocky spires and granite ridges typical of the highest reaches of Aigüestortes. The summit of Pic de Dellui (2,802 m) dominates the skyline above it. Nearby, toward the Collada de Dellui pass (2,577 m), lies another lake, Estany de la Collada (2,453 m). The pass itself is a natural gateway toward Estany de Nariolo and Estany Tort, making it possible to string together a longer route linking several lakes in one trip.

This part of the park feels considerably wilder and quieter than the well-trodden trails around Estany de Sant Maurici — a good pick for hikers looking for solitude and genuine alpine terrain away from the crowds.

Given the altitude (2,350 m) and terrain, the realistic hiking season for Estany de Dellui runs from June to September, when the trails are clear of snow. Outside that window, it's worth checking current conditions at a park information point, since the higher parts of the valley can hold snow well into early summer.
