El Chorro de Navafría

El Chorro de Navafría is one of the best-known waterfalls in the municipality of Aldealengua de Pedraza, in the province of Segovia, tucked into the forests on the northwestern slope of the Sierra de Guadarrama. The Chorro stream, a tributary of the River Cega, drops here in a cascade roughly 20 metres high, making it a favourite outing for visitors from Segovia and Madrid alike.

The waterfall sits at an altitude of around 1,320 metres, surrounded by the extensive pine forests of Navafría, along with oaks and holly trees. Although it's most commonly associated with the nearby village of Navafría, a hiking trail also starts from Aldealengua de Pedraza itself — a longer route of about 17 km that passes through the Refugio de Navafría and Refugio Regajohondo mountain shelters, taking roughly 4.5 hours and requiring a reasonable level of fitness.

The easiest approach is from Navafría — a well-marked path of about 2.5 km through the forest, with no technical difficulty, walkable almost all year round. Entry to the site is free, though a parking fee applies during the summer months, from May to the end of August. Visitors setting out from Aldealengua de Pedraza should come prepared for a considerably longer and more demanding mountain walk.
