About this place
Divadlo Na Rejdišti is a theatre stage housed inside the building of the Prague Conservatory (Pražská konzervatoř) in Prague's Old Town, with public entrance from Dvořák Embankment (Dvořákovo nábřeží) No. 2, in Prague 1. It combines the role of a training stage for conservatory students with a regular theatrical programme open to the general public.
Where did this stage come from?
Regular operation of Divadlo Na Rejdišti began on 21 February 2011. The venue was created by converting a former orchestral hall inside the conservatory building — a room previously used for rehearsals and concerts was turned into a full theatre space complete with seating for an audience. The project was financed through the EEA/Norway Grants financial mechanism, with participation from the City of Prague. As a result, Prague gained a new performance space with a distinctly different character compared to the city's other theatres.
What is the purpose of this stage?
The primary purpose of Divadlo Na Rejdišti is stage practice for senior students (5th and 6th year) of the Prague Conservatory — mainly from the music-drama (acting) department, as well as students specializing in classical and popular singing. Professional directors, set designers, choreographers and composers collaborate with the students on productions, which gives the performances a professional level of execution while still serving their educational, practice-based purpose.
What can visitors see here?
The repertoire of Divadlo Na Rejdišti is varied, spanning dramatic plays as well as opera, operetta and musical productions. This range reflects the conservatory's own training profile, which prepares both actors and singers. For audiences, this means the chance to see very different stage forms in a single venue — from classical spoken drama to musical performances.
Where exactly is it located?
The theatre sits in the heart of Prague's Old Town (Praha 1), directly next to the Vltava riverside — the public entrance is from Dvořák Embankment. This is a typical location for Prague's historic centre, close to other cultural institutions clustered along the river.
