Dinópolis

Inhóspitak is one of the seven venues in the Territorio Dinópolis network, located in the small village of Peñarroya de Tastavins, in the Matarraña/Matarranya region of Teruel province, Aragon, near the border with the provinces of Tarragona and Castellón. Unlike the flagship Dinópolis park in the city of Teruel, this is a compact interpretation center built around a single, locally significant fossil find.

What will you see at Inhóspitak?

The centerpiece of the exhibition is the original bones of Tastavinsaurus sanzi, a sauropod dinosaur whose remains were unearthed right here, near Peñarroya de Tastavins. Excavations carried out in 1997 revealed a partially articulated skeleton considered one of the largest and most complete sauropod finds ever recovered in Spain, dating from the Aptian stage, roughly 110 million years ago.

Alongside the authentic bones stands a full-scale replica of the animal measuring 17 meters in length, unique among reconstructions of its kind in the country. The display is rounded out by a recreated excavation site and audiovisual material that walks visitors step by step through a paleontologist's work — from spotting bone fragments in the rock, to careful extraction, to transporting the finds to a laboratory.

How do you get there?

Peñarroya de Tastavins sits deep inside Teruel province, in the Matarraña region known for its stone villages and hilly landscape at the crossroads of Aragon, Catalonia and the Valencian Community. Arriving by car is by far the most practical option — this is one of those Dinópolis locations that's genuinely hard to reach without your own transport, sitting well away from the main rail and bus routes linking Teruel with the coast.

When should you visit?

Inhóspitak runs on a split daily schedule: mornings from 10:30 to 14:30, and afternoons starting at 16:00, with closing time at either 19:00 or 20:00 depending on the season. Visits are guided and last around an hour, so it's worth building in a bit of extra time, especially if you're combining the stop with other Dinópolis venues scattered across the province.
