Chateau Slapy is a neo-Baroque manor house in the village of Slapy, in the Prague-West District of Central Bohemia, a short drive south of Prague on the banks of the Vltava river.

What is the history behind Chateau Slapy?

A residence first stood on this site in 1595, built near a former monastery courtyard after fire destroyed an earlier structure. In 1841 that residence was converted into a proper château, and in 1889 an ornate entrance gate was added to the estate grounds. The building's story wasn't a straight line, though: the original 19th-century château was demolished in 1919, and a new château in a pseudo-Baroque style rose on the same site during the 1920s — the building visitors see today. In 1965 the estate was placed on the Czech list of protected cultural monuments, formally recognizing its historical value.
