About this place
Borský park (Bory Park) is the largest park in Plzeň, stretching along the southern edge of the city at the end of Klatovská Avenue, bordering the Jižní Předměstí (Southern Suburb) district. Covering roughly 39 hectares of greenery, it's a favourite spot for locals to walk, skate, or picnic on the lawns.
How did the park come about?
The park's story began in the early 20th century — architect Leopold Batěk drew up the design for its establishment in 1914. A year later, in 1915, memorial lindens were planted here, including the so-called Hus Linden, planted on 18 April to mark the 500th anniversary of the death of Master Jan Hus. Those trees still grow in the park today and remain one of its historic features.
What can visitors do in Borský park?
The park is built for active leisure. It has playgrounds for children, space for inline skating, running paths, and a minigolf course. The wide lawns invite visitors to spread out a blanket or simply rest in the shade. Families with children will also find a physics playground — stations scattered across the park that let visitors experience physical phenomena such as levers, balance, and acoustics hands-on.
What monuments and memorials are here?
The park holds a monument dedicated to Jiří Trnka, a Plzeň-born illustrator, animator, and puppet-film director, one of the best-known figures in twentieth-century Czech culture. Nearby stand the memorial lindens mentioned above, including the Hus Linden, living witnesses to the city's history.
Who is Borský park best suited for?
Thanks to its size and variety of attractions, the park works equally well for a family walk with children and for active pursuits like running, skating, or a round of minigolf. It's also a good place to catch a breath away from the city bustle, even though it sits close to the centre of Plzeň, right along one of the city's main avenues.
How do you get to Borský park?
The park lies at the end of Klatovská Avenue, on the southern edge of Plzeň, near the Jižní Předměstí district. Its location along one of the city's main streets makes it easy to reach on foot or by public transport from the centre.
