Bílá Opava

Bílá Opava is a mountain stream near Malá Morávka, one of the three source branches of the Opava river in the Hrubý Jeseník mountain range. Only 13.2 km long, its upper section is one of the most dramatic waterways in the entire Eastern Sudetes — a rocky canyon carved into the flank of Praděd, packed with rapids, cascades and waterfalls.

Where does the river begin and end?

The stream rises on the southern slopes of Praděd, the highest peak of the Jeseníky mountains, near the Barborka cottage, at an altitude of roughly 1,280 m. From there it drops steeply through a narrow valley, and at Vrbno pod Pradědem, at 544 m altitude, it merges with the Střední Opava to form the main course of the Opava river. The entire stream lies within the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area, and its upper, canyon-like section falls additionally inside the Praděd National Nature Reserve, one of the strictest protected zones in the Czech Republic.
